Carl Jung was a Swiss psychologist who lived from 1875 to 1961. He recognized the richness of unconscious processes, and worked diligently to explore the human psyche. He is known for his discoveries of the persona, the shadow, complexes and archetypes. He also developed methods of entering into a dialogue with the unconscious through dreams, active imagination, and the arts. His work is very relevant for today’s world, which calls out for connection to the unconscious.

What is Jungian Psychology?

Jungian psychology opens a doorway to our unconscious. Jung viewed the unconscious as a source of creativity and spiritual wholeness. The unconscious also holds aspects of ourselves that can prevent us from connecting to our creativity. Thus, our challenge in life is to discover these unknown aspects within our psyche, and in doing so, to become a whole person. Jung called this process the way of individuation. Thus, Jungian psychology is about our personal journey towards wholeness, a journey that requires a moral commitment to self-discovery.

Please help Boulder Friends of Jung continue its great programming. You can help in lots of ways that work with your schedule. Would you consider helping to set out refreshments on the night of a program? Or, look into how to place ads in our local newspapers. Perhaps you’d like to organize a media list for publicity? How about greeting people as they come to a program? Volunteering and participating ‘behind the scenes’ provides an opportunity to make friends and be in a community with people who are interested in Jungian ideas and share in the mystery of our inner journey.

Boulder Friends of Jung does not provide a therapist or analyst referral service. There are many excellent online sites that offer lists of practicioners. A search for psychotherapists, counselors, therapy, Jungian Analysts, etc., will lead you in the right direction. Of course, one of the very best ways of finding a therapist is to seek personal reccomendations from you medical professional, local mental health centers, friends and family.
